Overview:

This program is designed for mental health care professionals with at least a Master’s degree (or an M.A. in progress), or 4-years of counselling work with on-going supervision. This course is an extensive Compassion Fatigue resiliency course created with caring professionals in mind. Participants will study Compassion Fatigue and recovery interventions using the Accelerated Recovery Program (ARP, Gentry, Baranowsky & Dunning, 1997).

This workshop supplies all of the instruments needed for the participant to employ the five-session ARP protocol to help professionals who have become compassion fatigued due to their caring work. This course is a combination of a didactic and experiential learning process.

Objectives:

The Compassion Fatigue Specialist Training (CFST) is a comprehensive Compassion Fatigue resiliency course designed with the caring professional in mind. This course is created to supply professionals with a thorough understanding of Compassion Fatigue & recovery interventions utilizing the Accelerated Recovery Program (ARP, Gentry, Baranowsky & Dunning, 1997). This program supplies the instruments needed for the participant to apply the 5-session ARP protocol in order to aid the caring professionals and paraprofessionals. This course is a combination of a didactic and experiential learning process.

Pre-workshop Preparation

It is necessary for participants to download and complete the assignments located on the www.psychink.com website Bulletin Board (left side bar) to prepare for this training program.

Who would benefit from Participation?

This program is designed for skilled mental health professionals who want to help compassion fatigued professionals. Participants include therapists/counsellors, psychiatrists, psychologists, clergy, social workers, employee assistance professionals, clinical supervisors and other helping professionals.

Participants will:

  • Learn the techniques used in the ARP model experientially
  • Study evaluation and treatment protocols employed to aid compassion fatigued care-providers
  • Ascertain prevention and resiliency skills and knowledge that can be used for self and others
  • Comprehend the definition of Compassion Fatigue in the lives of care-providers
  • Distinguish compassion fatigue triggers and scout for early warning signs
  • Recognize and employ resources & plan for prevention and resiliency
  • Control arousal reduction methods in addition to grounding and containment skills
  • Manage and reduce internal/external conflicts & dedicate oneself to wellness and self-care
  • Add resolution exercises to your repertoire in order to aid the release of emotional wounds that limit abilities

Course Evaluation:

It is necessary for students to complete all training materials on-line, read through the manuals, complete quizzes and all of the other recommended materials. Once all of the requirements are met, Certificates of Completion for the course will be distributed.

Fee:

Canadian $169.00 plus applicable taxes. Students will have 160 days access to this course.

Course pre-requisites:

It isnecessary for participants to attain the following qualifications to register in these courses:

  • At least a Master’s Degree or higher qualifications within a counselling type program or enrolment in a Master’s level program with a counselling mandate

OR

  • A minimum of 4 years of counselling work with ongoing supervision.
